SHOOTING DRILLS

BUILD CONSISTENT, GAME-READY SHOOTING FORM.

Consistency + Reps = Results. Use these SmartShotInventor drills to lock in perfect mechanics before you ever step into a game.

HOW TO USE THESE DRILLS

Make SmartShotInventor part of your shooting routine.

These drills are built to be simple, repeatable, and focused on form. Pick a drill, set a Reps target, and repeat it daily — every day, because it’s a lifestyle.

1. Start where you are

Pick the drills that fit your situation — no hoop, wall work, or close-to-rim form shooting.

2. Commit to Reps

Choose a realistic Reps target for your level and stick with it. Smooth, repeatable mechanics always beat rushed volume.

3. Trust the feedback

Let the SmartShotInventor light and/or sound feedback guide you. When it signals an adjustment, slow down, correct your form, and repeat the Rep until it feels right.

NO HOOP HACK | DRILL #1

Learn how the SmartShotInventor works at home so you’re locked in before you get to the gym or outdoor courts. Also use this drill when you don’t have access to a rim.

  • Objective: To train regardless of circumstances.
  • Reps: Minimum 40 shots per day or 5–10 minutes (every day because it’s a lifestyle).
  • Focus: Figuring out how it works at home before going to the gym or outdoor courts.
  • Goal: To make NO EXCUSES.
BACKBOARD | DRILL #2

Use this drill to take the pressure off makes and misses and lock in pure shooting form. The SmartShotInventor gives feedback on every rep so players can focus on mechanics, not the score.

  • Objective: To keep the focus on proper shooting form and take the focus off shots made and shots missed.
  • Reps: Minimum 100 shots per day (every day because it’s a lifestyle).
  • Focus: Make sure light and/or sound activate before shooting the ball. Take your time. Do NOT rush.
  • Goal: To develop proper biomechanics and muscle memory.
ONE HAND | DRILL #3

Use this drill to isolate the shooting hand and build pure shooting mechanics before you bring the guide hand back in.

  • Objective: To isolate the shooting hand to develop pure shooting mechanics.
  • Reps: Minimum 100 shots per day (every day because it’s a lifestyle).
  • Focus: Make sure light and/or sound activate before shooting the ball. Score the basket without touching the rim — swishes only for intermediate and advanced players.
  • Goal: To shoot with the same mechanics once you add the guide hand.
CLOSE TO RIM | DRILL #4

Use this drill to refine your shooting mechanics and touch right in front of the rim before you move farther out.

  • Objective: To refine shooting mechanics and technique.
  • Reps: Minimum 100 shots per day (every day because it’s a lifestyle).
  • Focus: Score the basket.
  • Goal: Score without touching the rim (swishes) for intermediate and advanced players.
WALL | DRILL #5

Use this drill when space is tight or you’re working with multiple players at once. A wall becomes your “hoop” so you can stack high-quality reps without needing a basket.

  • Objective: To maximize space and get reps in when a hoop isn’t available or when the gym is crowded.
  • Reps: Minimum 100 shots per day (every day because it’s a lifestyle).
  • Focus: Make sure light and/or sound activate before each shot. Slow down and don’t rush — every rep should feel intentional.
  • Goal: To build repeatable mechanics and muscle memory, even without a rim.
EXTENDING RANGE | DRILL #6

Use this drill to turn your SmartShotInventor form shooting into real game range without losing mechanics as you move farther from the basket.

  • Objective: To develop deeper shooting range while keeping the same SmartShotInventor mechanics.
  • Reps: Minimum 100 shots per day (every day because it’s a lifestyle).
  • Focus: Start close to the rim, then gradually move back only when your form and SmartShotInventor feedback are consistent. No changing your motion just to reach.
  • Goal: To shoot from farther out using the exact form you built with the SmartShotInventor up close.

IMPORTANT TO MAXIMIZE TRAINING

Training mindset for all skill levels.

Before every shooting practice or game, run the SmartShotInventor drills first. Use the SmartShotInventor Training Aid without the rim and take 100–300 form shots (see Backboard & Wall drills above).

Why start without the rim?

  • Puts the focus solely on proper SmartShotInventor shooting mechanics.
  • Prevents “just make the shot” habits that compromise shooting form.
  • Removes makes and misses as the only validation for good form.
  • Allows more quality Reps per second.
  • Makes it realistic to hit 100–300 focused shots in just a few minutes.
  • Translates to more consistent, accurate game shots over time.

After your form-work

Once you complete your drills, temporarily remove the SmartShotInventor and use the muscle memory you just built to shoot further away from the rim at game speed.

Important use note

The SmartShotInventor Basketball Shooting Training Aid is designed for form shooting drills. The light and/or sound feedback tells you how your mechanics were on that Rep, but game-speed reaction time is too fast to adjust your form in the middle of a live play. Use SmartShotInventor to build great mechanics, then take it off for game-speed reps and live play.
